China have secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Women's World Cup courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Cameroon.

Hao Wei's side took the lead in the 12th minute when Wang Shanshan rose highest in the box to head Wang Lisi's corner past Annette Ngo Ndom and into the net.

Han Peng nearly doubled China's advantage when she drilled an effort at goal from the edge of the box, but Ndom made a good save to keep the strike out.

Cameroon almost hit back as Raissa Feudijo raided forward and managed to carve out space for a strike, but her effort was stopped by Wang Fei.

In the second half, Gaelle Enganamouit almost brought her side level when she drilled a shot at goal from close range, only to see her strike rattle off the crossbar.

Cameroon kept up the pressure but Fei was in good form between the sticks for China as she made another good stop to deny Ajara Nchout.

Shanshan came close to ending the match when she curled a free kick from the edge of the box over the wall, but her goalbound effort was well saved by Ndom.

Cameroon pushed late in the game for a leveller, but Wei's side held out to earn a place in the last eight of the competition. China will face either the USA or Colombia in the quarter-finals.
