FIFA deny plans to cancel the Confederations Cup midway through the tournament due to the protests in Brazil.

FIFA has denied reports that they are considering cancelling the Confederations Cup due to unrest within Brazil.

Local media in the country had claimed that the tournament could be abandoned due to the violent scenes that have emerged from demonstrations involving over one million people in 100 cities across the country.

Marches have been organised to protest against the country's decision to host the World Cup next year, as well as issues including tax inflation and poor public services.

"Neither FIFA nor the local organising committee have ever discussed the possibility of cancelling the tournament," a FIFA spokesman told BBC Sport. "There are currently no plans to discuss it. These reports are pure speculation."

Reports have claimed that an 18-year-old was killed during a demonstration when a car rammed into a group of protesters.
