William Hill slash the odds of Wayne Rooney signing for Real Madrid from 33/1 to 6/1.

Odds on Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney signing for Real Madrid this summer have been slashed as uncertainty continues to surround the forward's future.

The England international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that the 27-year-old has asked to leave the club twice in three years.

Bookmakers William Hill have slashed the odds from 33/1 to 6/1 on the striker moving to the Bernabeu following reports that Gonzalo Higuain is expected to sign for Arsenal.

"With Real Madrid selling Higuain to Arsenal, Real Madrid have a gap opening in their forward line and with Rooney seemingly having itchy feet at Manchester United, he could be a perfect replacement," said William hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Rooney is currently 8/11 to remain at Old Trafford.
