Crawley Town manager Richie Barker has said that the chances of striker Matt Tubbs returning to the club are "very slim".
The 28-year-old left Crawley to join Bournemouth in January 2012.
The club today confirmed that initial talks had taken place with Tubbs's agent over a potential move back to the Broadfield Stadium.
Barker told the Crawley Observer: "Yes there is a chance [of signing Tubbs], but it's only a very slim chance.
"I have a long list of players [being looked at] and yes Matt Tubbs is on that list but if I spoke about every player we are looking at it would probably be enough to fill an entire newspaper.
"Sometimes players favour a certain club and Matt Tubbs certainly played his best football for us so for that reason he is somebody we would consider."
Tubbs scored 58 goals in 78 appearances for Crawley.
