Croatia have never gone beyond the quarter-finals at the European Championships. Here, Sports Mole previews their chances of setting a personal best this summer.

The only surprise about Croatia's appearance at Euro 2012 is how long it took them to confirm it.

Despite what looked to be a favourable qualifying group, Croatia were forced to enter into a playoff encounter against Turkey after finishing second behind Greece.

Since gaining independence in 1991, Croatia have only failed to reach the tournament on one occasion back in 2000.

Group: C

Manager: Slaven Bilic - The former West Ham United and Everton defender has confirmed that he will quit his post at the end of the competition. He has been in charge for almost six years and has received high praise for the style of football that he has implemented.

Players to watch:

Nikica Jelavic: Despite having an impressive scoring record in recent seasons, Everton's Jelavic is a relative novice on the international scene. In what will be his first major tournament, the 26-year-old is expected to provide a goal threat.

Luka Modric: Viewed by many as Croatia's main creative force, big things are anticipated from Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Modric.

Darijo Srna: With 90 caps to his name, the experienced Srna has featured in two European Championships. The 30-year-old has an impressive goalscoring ability despite his defensive role.
