The visitors had an early chance through Nathan Redmond, who blazed his shot over the bar after weaving into the Palace penalty area.

However, the winger found the net in the 24th minute when he fired low past Julian Speroni into the bottom corner.

City's lead was doubled 10 minutes later as Damien Delaney headed into his own net from a corner while under pressure from Nikola Zigic.
