Simon Jordan: 'Frank de Boer a risky appointment for Crystal Palace'

New Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer is a risky appointment by the club due to the sudden change in their "DNA", according to former owner Simon Jordan.

Crystal Palace have taken a huge risk in appointing Frank de Boer as manager, according to former owner Simon Jordan.

The Dutchman, who previously managed Ajax and Inter Milan, took the reins at Selhurst Park in June following Sam Allardyce's resignation.

However, De Boer began life in the Premier League with a 3-0 defeat at home to promoted Huddersfield Town last weekend, and they next face Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

Jordan, speaking to Sky Sports News, claimed that Palace may suffer due to De Boer's attempts to change the culture at the club too quickly following the departure of Allardyce.

"Palace are in a [difficult] position because they're in between cultures," he said. "They had Sam who created the DNA of them being hard to beat, and then De Boer comes along with a hybrid of [experience in] Eredivisie and a bit of Italian.

"But you can't hang this man for one game, the fans have got to stop being fans and start being supporters. They've got to get behind him until there's nothing to support. One bad game isn't going to define him.

"I think this is dangerous territory for Palace. They've had established managers in [Tony] Pulis, [Alan] Pardew and ultimately Sam, but this is a departure from their DNA.

"The Premier League is very different from a pre-season friendly tournament, De Boer is going to get schooled very quickly, and he's either going to thrive or not survive."

De Boer, who is contracted to Palace for the next three seasons, is the club's eighth manager in seven years.
