Tomkins: 'We can't underestimate Fulham'
Crystal Palace defender James Tomkins insists that his side cannot underestimate Fulham when the teams clash on Saturday.

Crystal Palace defender James Tomkins has insisted that his side cannot underestimate Fulham when the teams clash on Saturday.

Slavisa Jokanovic's men host the Eagles at Craven Cottage in their opening fixture, having become the first promoted team in Premier League history to spend £100m in the summer transfer window.

The West London club have brought in players such as World Cup winner Andre Schurrle and midfielder Jean Michael Seri, the likes of which Palace should be wary of, according to Tomkins.

"They have had a really good go with the players they have signed," the 29-year-old told reporters. "We do not know what to expect from them when they have signed so many players. We expect a tough game, they will be up for it. Fulham are back where I feel they belong, especially when I was growing up.

"We need to have a stronger start, for starters. For sure, we do not want a situation like last season with no goals or points after seven games.

"What happened last season is obviously something we never want to see again."

Palace had a troubled start to last season under former manager Frank de Boer, but they went on to finish 11th in the table following the appointment of current boss Roy Hodgson.
