Derby County defender Zak Whitbread has refused to give up hope of one day representing the USA.
The 30-year-old featured for America at youth level, but he has never been selected for the senior side.
However, the centre-back has revealed that he is still determined to force his way into Jurgen Klinsmann's plans.
"I've definitely not given up hope. I'm still working hard to achieve that and it's something I'd love to do. But it's something that can't be achieved while I'm sat on a bench or not playing to a certain level," he told the Derby Telegraph.
"It's just about performing for Derby at the minute and trying to keep my place here. So I'm not thinking too much about international football but I've definitely not closed that door."
Whitbread joined the Rams on a permanent deal in the summer.
