Doncaster Rovers sack manager Paul Dickov

League One side Doncaster Rovers announce that they have sacked manager Paul Dickov after a slow start to the season.

Doncaster Rovers have sacked manager Paul Dickov after a slow start to the League One season.

Donny have won only one of their first six league fixtures to lie 17th, and the board has decided to take early action by removing Dickov, with a top-six finish their main aim this season.

"The board of directors would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Dickov for his efforts on and off the pitch, and wish him well for the future," read a statement on the club website.

Player-coach Rob Jones will take charge of the team while the club find a new manager, and he will be in the dugout for Saturday's trip to high-flying Walsall.

Former striker Dickov, 42, leaves Donny after over two years in charge. In his first year he was relegated from the Championship, while last season the Yorkshire side managed a mid-table finish in the third tier.
