Marco Russ's goal gives Eintracht Frankfurt all three points against Schalke 04.

A goal from Marco Russ was enough to give Eintracht Frankfurt all three points against Schalke 04 this afternoon.

It took 10 minutes for any action but it was Schalke who started to get on top of the game and had a couple of chances in quick succession.

First Michel Bastos tested Oka Nikolov with a somewhat comfortable save before Raffael shot just wide from inside the box.

Schalke had the perfect chance to open the scoring in the 25th minute when Stefan Aigner handballed in the box, but Bastos's corner was tipped wide by Nikolov.

However, four minutes before the break it was the hosts who took the lead as Russ headed in from a Marc Stendera free kick.

Instead of Schalke fighting back it was Frankfurt who looked most likely to add to their lead when Takashi Inui's shot towards the bottom corner was well saved.

However, there were to be no more goals and Frankfurt took the points.
