Eintracht Frankfurt see off Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen slump to a 2-1 defeat on the final day of the Bundesliga season away at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Eintracht Frankfurt rounded off their Bundesliga campaign by winning by the odd goal in three over fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen this afternoon.

It was a frantic start to proceedings at the Commerzbank-Arena, where both sides found the back of the net within the opening six minutes.

In the fourth minute Haris Seferovic showed good composure to give the home team the lead from inside the area, but almost immediately Leverkusen were level thanks to Karim Bellarabi, who fired in from long range.

Just two minutes later, the visitors went close to taking the lead when Julian Brandt created himself enough space to shoot from the edge of the Frankfurt penalty area, only to see his strike cannon off the left upright.

After the manic opening, the pace of the game died down and it appeared that the scoreline was going to be level heading into the break, but in the 39th minute, Alexander Madlung struck. Leverkusen failed to deal with a corner and they were duly punished when the experienced centre-back fired in.

Chances were few and far between after the restart, which in turn meant that Frankfurt were able to secure all three points with relative ease.

The defeat did nothing to harm Leverkusen's position in next season's Champions League, while the win lifted the hosts up to ninth position.
