Former England boss Graham Taylor fears that Steven Gerrard's age is likely to hamper his role with the Three Lions in the coming years.

Former England manager Graham Taylor has expressed his concerns that Three Lions captain Steven Gerrard may struggle to stay at the top of his game in the national side.

The Liverpool skipper has been highly praised for his performances throughout Euro 2012 but the 32-year-old appeared fatigued during England's quarter-final clash against Italy last night, where Roy Hodgson's side lost 4-2 on penalties.

"Steven Gerrard has given everything to the cause, but he looked very tired," Taylor told BBC Radio Five Live. "It doesn't matter how great the player, time catches up with you. It will be very interesting to see what happens over the next two seasons."

Meanwhile, the semi-finals of the tournament have been drawn, with Portugal and Spain to get underway on Wednesday and Germany against Italy to follow on Thursday.
