Roy Hodgson is reportedly ready to recall Rio Ferdinand to the England team amid a defensive crisis.

England coach Roy Hodgson is reportedly ready to recall Rio Ferdinand to his squad for the upcoming qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro.

Hodgson had insisted that the national team had moved on since his arrival, suggesting that Ferdinand's international days were over.

The 34-year-old has been in good form this season, not least in his two displays against Real Madrid, and according to The People, is back in the manager's plans.

There had been question marks over Ferdinand's ability to play multiple games in a short space of time, but Hodgson reportedly plans to rest him for the San Marino game in order for Ferdinand to be fully fit four days later against Montenegro.

Gary Cahill will be Hodgson's only fit centre-back and he is also considering a return for Michael Dawson after a number of impressive displays for Tottenham Hotspur.

Hodgson names his next England squad on Thursday.
