FA to back Gianni Infantino's bid for FIFA presidency

The Football Association reportedly agrees to back Gianni Infantino's bid for the FIFA presidency.

The Football Association has reportedly agreed to support UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino's bid for the FIFA presidency.

The 45-year-old is one of five candidates, alongside Prince Ali, Sheikh Salman, Tokyo Sexwale and Jerome Champagne, who are vying for Sepp Blatter's position in the February 26 election.

Blatter, who is embroiled in FIFA's widespread corruption scandal, revealed in June last year that he will step down from his role as president.

The English FA had previously given its backing to Michel Platini, but the UEFA president withdrew from the race after he was issued with an eight-year ban from football.

The suspension was put in place due to allegations of a "disloyal" payment made to Platini by Blatter in 2011.

Now, according to BBC Sport, the FA will vote for Infantino in the election later this month in Zurich.

Blatter is also serving an eight-year ban.
