Roy Hodgson "disappointed" to lose John Terry

Manager Roy Hodgson expresses his regret at seeing John Terry end his international career with England.

England manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that he was "disappointed" to learn of John Terry's decision to retire from international football.

Chelsea skipper Terry revealed last night that he no longer wanted to be considered for selection by the Three Lions, blaming the Football Association for making his position "untenable" regarding his racial abuse case with Anton Ferdinand.

"I'd like to thank John Terry for his commitment to the England team since I became manager," Hodgson said in a statement. "I am of course disappointed to lose a player of John's international experience and exceptional ability.

"I have enjoyed a good relationship with John during my time as England manager and I reluctantly accept his decision. I can also confirm that he had the courtesy to call me prior to announcing his retirement from the England team.

"I'd like to wish John well for the future with Chelsea."

Terry is currently at Wembley Stadium, where he is at the centre of a racial hearing.
