Roy Hodgson: 'Jack Grealish has spoken to England officials'

England boss Roy Hodgson claims that Aston Villa's Jack Grealish has "initated" talks with the Football Association over playing for the Three Lions.

England manager Roy Hodgson believes that Jack Grealish has "initiated" discussions with FA officials over representing the Three Lions.

The Aston Villa midfielder - who was born in Birmingham - is also eligible to represent the Republic of Ireland through his grandparents.

The 19-year-old enjoyed an impressive second half of the season for Villa, claiming the club's Young Player of the Year award and helping the team reach the FA Cup final, which saw him linked with an international call-up.

"I believe there have been discussions," Hodgson told the Irish Examiner. "I think Jack Grealish initiated some discussions with the FA. I haven't spoken to him.

"He's still a young player with a very bright future either for England or Ireland.

"I'm sure that he and his family and representatives will make the decision which suits him and we won't put pressure on him, other than to say we'd be happy to have him in our ranks."

England and Ireland played out a goalless draw in their friendly in Dublin on Sunday.
