Roy Hodgson: 'We deserved the win'

England boss Roy Hodgson says that his side were deserved winners against Norway as they won 1-0 at Wembley.

England boss Roy Hodgson believes that his side were well worth their 1-0 win against Norway on Wednesday evening.

Wayne Rooney marked his first game as captain with a second-half penalty, and the Three Lions boss thought that his charges did enough to earn the victory, but admitted that it was far from a vintage display at Wembley.

"I thought the first half, we were very dominant, we kept the ball very well," he told ITV Sport. "We probed very well and asked a lot of questions of them, but they got a lot of players back behind the ball and made life difficult for us.

"We started the second half poorly. We were sloppy for the first 15 minutes and Joe Hart had to make a save and he was a virtual bystander for the first half.

"Then we got back into our rhythm and with the changes we made with the likes of Danny Welbeck, Fabian Delph, James Milner and we changed our system slightly, and in the end, we were good value for our victory."

England play Switzerland in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Monday evening.
