Preview: England vs. Norway

Sports Mole looks ahead to England's first encounter since the World Cup against Norway at Wembley.

After what was a disappointing World Cup campaign in Brazil, England will return to the familiar surroundings of Wembley on Wednesday night when they play host to Norway in a friendly fixture.

Roy Hodgson caused somewhat of a surprise when he included Jack Colback, Fabian Delph and Danny Rose in his squad, and while none of that trio are expected to start against the Norwegians, they could feature as substitutes.

The encounter will be the first for Wayne Rooney since his appointment as captain and it is likely that he will be partnered up front by Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge.

Elsewhere, Sturridge's club teammates Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling should start, while there could also be an opening for Everton youngster John Stones at centre-back.

As for visiting Norway, they could include 15-year-old midfielder Martin Odegaard, who has been linked with a switch to Manchester United, within their starting lineup.

These two nations have met on 11 previous occasions, with England coming out on top six times to Norway's two. The last meeting came in the weeks leading up to Euro 2012, with the Three Lions winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from Ashley Young.
