Micah Richards says that he had 'no chance' of playing for England under former boss Fabio Capello.

Micah Richards has said that he had 'no chance' of playing for England under former boss Fabio Capello.

The Manchester City defender was named in the national team squad yesterday by Stuart Pearce ahead of their friendly with Holland next week.

Under previous boss Capello, Richards made only one appearance as a substitute, despite his club form.

"I didn't get a chance under Capello. I don't know for what reason," Richards said.

"Did I ever get an explanation? No, never. I always asked the question but I never got an answer.

"Every player wants to play for their country, especially when you are in a club team that's doing so well. But Capello had his favourites, he liked Glen Johnson and Kyle Walker and sometimes you've got to just take it on the chin."

England host Holland on Wednesday, February 29.
