Fabio Capello insists that he does not regret giving the England captaincy back to John Terry.

England coach Fabio Capello has said that he does not regret giving the England captaincy back to John Terry earlier this year.

The Chelsea man, who was stripped of the armband in 2010 after allegations about his private life, was given reunited with the title as a result of replacement Rio Ferdinand's ongoing problems with injuries.

However, despite the recent racism row, the Italian has said that he has no regets over the decision after announcing that the defender will remain captain.

"I don't regret it," said Capello. "Absolutely not.

"He was a really important player in the dressing room and on the pitch. That's why we picked him. For this reason."

Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard will lead England out against Spain on Saturday at Wembley.
