Everton sweat on Darron Gibson news

Darron Gibson will undergo a scan at Everton on Wednesday to discover the extent of a knee injury suffered while on international duty.

Everton are waiting on news from a scan to find out the extent of an injury suffered by Darron Gibson while on international duty.

The midfielder was taken off on a stretcher during Republic of Ireland's 3-1 win over Kazakhstan on Tuesday night at the Aviva Stadium, and left the field with heavy strapping on his knee after receiving medical attention for several minutes.

Gibson, who missed the start of the season due to a knee problem, is rumoured to have been hit by ligament damage but will undergo an examination once he returns to Goodison Park on Wednesday.

In a statement released via its Twitter account, the FAI said: "Darron Gibson has been assessed by our team doc and will return to his club for a scan with suspected knee ligament damage."

Everton boss Roberto Martinez was in attendance at the game and consoled Gibson in the changing rooms following his substitution.
