Roberto Martinez: 'We've learned a lot this season'

Everton boss Roberto Martinez concedes that his side had a tough season coping with the dual demands of the Premier League and the Europa League.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has admitted that this season has been a valuable learning experience for him and his players as they ended their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Toffees struggled for the majority of the season to cope with the dual demands of the top flight and the Europa League.

Martinez's men faced the threat of relegation until March, when a series of positive results lifted them away from danger into the security of mid-table.

He told BBC Sport: "Of course it's been a very tough season but we have learned invaluable lessons that we will use in a good effect to start building towards where we want to be again."

Everton finished the season in 11th place in the Premier League.
