Everton manager Sam Allardyce admits to uncertainty over the future of midfielder Ross Barkley.

New Everton manager Sam Allardyce has admitted that he is not sure if Ross Barkley will stay with the Toffees in the long-term.

The former England boss was appointed as permanent successor to Ronald Koeman earlier this week, after putting pen to paper on an 18-month contract at Goodison Park.

Allardyce has suggested that he will be sitting down with the midfielder soon to discuss his future.

"There's only so far a football club can go. I don't know exact details," he told reporters.

"The most important thing for me and for Ross is to not worry about a contract, it's to get fit and perform to the levels that he has performed before.

"If he stays here, that'll be great – if he goes somewhere else then he's going to need to get back to his sort of level to get the contract he's looking for."

Barkley has not featured for Everton so far this season because of a hamstring injury.
