Davy Klaassen insists that he enjoyed his first season at Everton, despite featuring just 13 times in all competitions upon joining in a £23.5m deal.

Everton outcast Davy Klaassen has vowed to stay at the club and fight for a starting spot under a new manager next season.

The Netherlands international arrived from Ajax in a £23.5m deal last summer, brought in as part of an overhaul of the Toffees' first-team squad.

Klaassen was used just 13 times by Ronald Koeman, David Unsworth and Sam Allardyce, though, with two of those appearances coming in the final week of a disappointing debut campaign on Merseyside.

Despite his limited playing time, totalling 245 minutes in the Premier League, the 25-year-old does not intend to walk out on Everton a year after joining.

"My overall experience at Everton has been good...the club is excellent and the people are very nice," he is quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo. "It is an ambitious club and I 100% enjoy being here.

"I feel at home and am determined to play more for the team. We have a vacation now and I will relax for a couple of weeks but then start training to come back in top condition.

"That is my goal and everybody's goal, so there is going to be good competition for places. You have to be ready as soon as you are needed. It is hard to be patient but if you keep working it will come. You have to work hard and try to show yourself when you get a chance."

The majority of Everton's players are due back at their Finch Farm HQ at the start of July.
