Groningen survived a late barrage of attacks by FC Twente to secure a 2-1 away win in this afternoon's Eredivisie clash at De Grolsch Veste.
The hosts were brighter in the opening stages, with Hakim Ziyec and Robbert Schilder threatening within the first two minutes.
However, the visitors grew in confidence as the game went on, and were duly rewarded when Michael De Leeuw headed his side in front after 19 minutes.
Groningen were buoyed after opening the scoring and went from strength to strength, doubling their lead just before the half-hour mark through Tjaronn Chery.
Twente did not give up and had the best of the second half, threatening time and time again on the break.
Groningen had to endure a nervy finish courtesy of Danny Hoesen's red card in the 81st minute, as well as Luc Castaignos's late goal for the hosts.
However, the visitors were able to survive the onslaught and secure all three points.
