France coach Laurent Blanc has picked Hugo Lloris as his captain for Euro 2012.
The Lyon goalkeeper fought off competition from AC Milan centre-half Philippe Mexes and Barcelona left-back Eric Abidal to take the role.
"I think that Hugo offers the most guarantees in this role," Blanc told a press conference.
"He'll wear the armband, but don't forget that he's not the only important one in the squad. He seems to have the control and the clarity that you need for the role.
"It's a real choice, not a default choice."
Lloris has made 30 appearances for the national team.
