Freiburg squeeze past Eintracht Braunschweig

Freiburg edge past Eintracht Braunschweig 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in the Bundesliga.

A second-half strike from Gelson Fernandes has given Freiburg all three points against Eintracht Braunschweig.

The hosts got off to a good start and the first effort on goal fell to them, but Damir Vrancic's effort from distance was never likely to test Oliver Baumann.

On 10 minutes Braunschweig should have been ahead as Deniz Dogan somehow directed his close-range shot straight at Baumann.

Many of the hosts' shots were coming from too far out but Karim Bellarabi came close just before the break with his effort tipped round the post by the busy away stopper.

Freiburg came out a different team and took the lead not long after the restart, as Fernandes broke from midfield to finish off a through-ball from Oliver Sorg.

The hosts continued to rifle shots in from range and were struggling to create any real chances although Mirko Boland did manage to find the target.

Freiburg continued to defend and restrict the hosts' chances and were able to cling on for an overdue win.
