John Collins backs Dimitar Berbatov exit from Fulham

John Collins believes that Fulham could benefit if Dimitar Berbatov leaves the club in January.

Former Fulham midfielder John Collins believes that the prospect of Dimitar Berbatov leaving the club would not be a "bad thing".

Reports have emerged claiming that the Bulgarian forward is keen to part ways with the Cottagers in January following a tough start to the campaign.

Despite becoming a fan favourite in his debut season, the 32-year-old's performances during the 2013-14 campaign have been criticised on a number of occasions.

"I don't think that would be a bad thing," Collins told talkSPORT. "I am an admirer of his talent and his skill but he is not a worker. He doesn't press from the front.

"He's been dropping a little too deep for me the last six months and Fulham need all hands on deck. They need a squad of players on the pitch that are going to roll their sleeves up and work their socks off."

Fulham, who are now under the leadership of Rene Meulensteen following Martin Jol's dismissal, are currently third from bottom in the Premier League table.
