Former Wigan Athletic defender Paul Scharner has left Hamburger SV by mutual consent, with the club agreeing to terminate his contract.
Scharner had previously claimed that he was being forced out of the club, but director of football Oliver Kreuzer said that the parting was amicable.
"I always knew that the recent comments made by Paul were due to an understandable disappointment," Bundesliga.de quotes Kreuzer as saying.
"He is an ambitious character and impeccable player. We wish him all the best for the future."
Recent reports have linked Scharner with a move to Hull City to link up with his former boss Steve Bruce.
