Hibernian have confirmed that Efe Ambrose has left the Easter Road club after triggering a clause in his contract.
The 30-year-old defender originally joined Hibs on loan from Celtic in 2017 and helped them get promoted to the Ladbrokes Premiership, before signing a two-year deal.
The Nigeria international rejected the offer of a new three-year deal with Neil Lennon's side to move on.
In a statement on their official website, Hibs explained Ambrose's decision:
"The 30-year-old centre-back has invoked a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Easter Road Stadium this month, having indicated a desire to pursue an opportunity elsewhere and, therefore, turn down an improved three-year contract to extend his stay in Edinburgh.
"Efe originally moved to Hibs on loan from Celtic in February 2017 while the club pushed for promotion from the Championship, in no small part due to his relationship with Neil Lennon and his personal circumstances at the time.
"A two-year contract followed, which saw the experienced Nigerian international help Hibs enjoy a successful return to the Premiership and acquire a British passport in the process.
"A popular figure with players, staff and supporters alike, the club made every effort to keep Efe but respect his decision and thank him for his contribution.
"He leaves with the best wishes of everyone at Hibernian."
