Bundesliga strugglers Wolfsburg could reportedly be tempted into a move for David Wagner, who has guided Huddersfield Town into Championship playoff contention this term.

Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner is on Wolfsburg's shortlist to replace Valerien Ismael in the New Year, according to a report.

The 45-year-old has worked wonders so far at the John Smith's Stadium in his first full campaign at the helm, guiding the Terriers into playoff contention at the midway stage.

Wagner's work has not gone unnoticed, as German publication Bild reports that Wolfsburg - who are said to be close to parting company with Ismael - have targeted the Huddersfield boss.

However, The Huddersfield Daily Examiner has a different spin on the story, claiming that it is mere speculation and Wagner - in charge of the second-tier outfit for the past 13 months - has yet to have been approached.

Town are three points clear of seventh-placed Derby County in the Championship table, while Wolfsburg are just one point above the Bundesliga relegation zone.
