Hull City owner Assem Allam vows to challenge name-change block

Hull City owner Assem Allam vows to lodge an appeal against the FA's decision to block his attempt to rename the club.

Hull City owner Assem Allam has vowed to continue fighting to change the club's name despite the Football Association rejecting his rebranding efforts.

The FA Council voted by a 63.5% majority to block Allam's attempts to rename the team Hull Tigers, while a small minority of adult season-ticket holders voted in favour.

The businessman previously said he would leave the club if the FA opposed his plans, but has now declared that he is lodging an appeal.

"If it had been the other way round, if the FA had approved it but the fans had said no, I would have severed my ties with the club immediately," he told reporters.

"But the results mean I owe it to the silent majority to appeal and to fight on.

"For now what is important is what happens on the field. We want to finish as high as we possibly can in the league, and the FA Cup gives us the possibility of getting into Europe."

Hull take on Sheffield United for a place in the FA Cup final this weekend.
