Nick Barmby is "honoured" to be caretaker manager at Hull City following Nigel Pearson's departure.

Nick Barmby has said that he was "honoured" when asked to be Hull City's caretaker manager.

The role was available after manager Nigel Pearson rejoined Leicester City on Wednesday afternoon.

The 37-year-old will be accompanied by Stuart Watkiss to oversee first-team action at the KC Stadium.

"We're coming in and, I wouldn't say see how we go, but the club have asked us to do it and we've said 'yes, definitely', for the club, but we'll see how it pans out and hopefully we can move forward together as a management team and more importantly as a football team," said Barmby.

"I'm very proud and was honoured when I was asked. Football is strange. Nigel was going along quite nicely, so we just need to stabilise the club and when Adam [Pearson] and the owners asked me it was a very proud moment.

"I'd do anything for this club and we're in a predicament and we need leadership, so me and Stuart Watkiss have taken over since Thursday and it's our job to get the lads right for Saturday."

Barmby's first match in charge of the Tigers will be a trip to Derby County in the Championship on Saturday.
