Michael Dawson expects Championship promotion race to go down to wire

Hull City defender Michael Dawson believes that the Championship promotion race will go all the way to the wire, with just two points currently separating the top four.

Hull City defender Michael Dawson has predicted that the Championship promotion race will rumble on until the very end of the season.

The Tigers are one of four teams in the immediate mix for automatic promotion to the Premier League, with just two points separating Burnley, Hull, Middlesbrough and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Hull would drop out of the top two should Boro avoid defeat against Blackburn Rovers this evening, but Dawson stressed that it is only the final standings that will matter.

"I think it will go all the way to the wire," he told PA.

"Ourselves, Burnley, Middlesbrough, Brighton, the top four teams, it's swapping. All that matters is you're in the top two come May 7.

"We all want to be back in the Premier League, each team is striving for the same. You've just got to make sure you're one of those two that get up automatically."

Hull, who are bidding for an immediate return to the top flight, are next in action against Birmingham City on Thursday evening.
