Mike Phelan: 'Hull City can build on promising start'

Hull City caretaker manager Mike Phelan says that the Tigers are capable of building on their impressive start to the Premier League season.

Hull City caretaker manager Mike Phelan has insisted that his team should not be regarded as favourites for their away trip to Burnley.

The Tigers were the surprise package of the opening three weeks of the season after they registered back-to-back wins over Leicester City and Swansea City, while they came within seconds of earning a point against Manchester United.

However, while Phelan feels that they can build on their promising start to the campaign, he does not consider his team to be favourites for the game at Turf Moor.

The 53-year-old told reporters: "We've got the belief we can build on the start we've made. We've now got a squad we feel is more competitive.

"The Burnley game is a big one. I don't consider us favourites because they won the Championship title last season."

Phelan is currently in negotiations to become the permanent successor to Steve Bruce.
