Mick McCarthy hails fit-again David McGoldrick

Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy hails the "diligence and professionalism" of David McGoldrick, who returned from injury to help the club to an opening-day win over Fulham.

Mick McCarthy has expressed his delight over David McGoldrick's return to action after he helped Ipswich Town to a 2-1 victory over Fulham on Saturday.

McGoldrick returned to competitive action for the first time in five months to help Ipswich kick off their Championship season with a win, doubling their advantage after Daryl Murphy's opener.

"The fact he is now back is all down to his diligence and professionalism to get himself fit," McCarthy told Sky Sports News.

"He has worked really hard and was desperate to get back playing - and it was lovely to have him back."

Tim Hoogland reduced the arrears with a deflected effort, but the Tractor Boys held on for an opening-day win.
