Fabio Capello: 'Italy job doesn't interest me'

Capello: 'I never want to coach Italy'

Fabio Capello rules out the possibility of ever coaching his native Italy.

Ex-England coach Fabio Capello has again claimed that he would not be interested in one day taking the Italy hot seat.

Capello is attending Euro 2012 as a UEFA delegate following his misunderstanding with the FA which led to his resignation back in February.

"I've said it before and I'll repeat it - I'm not interested in becoming the Coach of the national team. And another thing, I'm at a certain age now," the newly-turned 66-year-old told Radio 2.

"I always thought that Italy were stronger than other teams, because I've seen in Poland how they played against Spain.

"Only for us, if there is such and such a result do they immediately write critical pieces that are irrelevant. This is a good national team who can play their part."

England, France or Ukraine await Italy in Sunday's quarter-final, with the co-hosts the unfancied side to top the group.

"The French have more creativity, but England have gained in confidence, they are doing as they should. They are the players that I would have chosen. I spoke with [Roy] Hodgson and I'm happy," he added.

Capello, who used to coach Antonio Cassano at Roma and Real Madrid, also gave his thoughts on the striker's partnership with Mario Balotelli.

"Cassano has matured, whilst Balotelli, I've watched him on the field. Yesterday they closed his mouth and it was a smart move, as well as tactically one of the smartest moves to end the controversy," he explained.

"If I had him in my dressing room there would be no problems, because I'm a direct person and I think he prefers direct action."

England play Ukraine tonight and France play Sweden in tonight's final Euro 2012 group games. Italy await the group winners.
