Half-Time Report: Shrewsbury Town on course to shock Leicester City

Andy Mangan's free kick puts Shrewsbury on course for a League Cup shock over Leicester, with the League One underdogs leading 1-0 at half time in the East Midlands.

Andy Mangan's free kick has given Shrewsbury Town hope of causing a Capital One Cup second-round shock over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Salop could have been two up at the break had Mickey Demetriou not wasted a great chance in injury time of a first half which finished 1-0 to the visiting underdogs.

It was an end-to-end 45 minutes which began with the League One side in the ascendancy, as striker James Collins forced Foxes debutant Ben Hamer into a reflex save with a third-minute header.

Paul Konchesky and Riyad Mahrez both tried their luck from distance for a Leicester side showing eight changes from the weekend, before Demetriou's long-range effort called Hamer into action again.

A defender from each side then threatened from a corner as Marcin Wasilewski headed straight at Shrews keeper Jayson Leutwiler, and unmarked Jermaine Grandison nodded wide at the other end.

The hosts again nearly utilised a dead-ball situation when Chris Wood powered Anthony Knockaert's delivery against the crossbar, but it was Shrewsbury who would eventually benefit from their set pieces.

Mangan dipped a 25-yard effort over the wall and into the top corner to give unbeaten Town a surprise advantage, which could have been increased had Demetriou not sliced wide from six yards.
