Claudio Ranieri regrets picking Greece over Southampton

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri claims that he spoke with Southampton about becoming their boss before he took charge of Greece - a decision he regrets.

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has revealed that he spoke with Southampton about becoming their boss before he took charge of Greece.

The Italian was appointed manager of the Euro 2004 winners in July 2014 but presided over three defeats and a draw in Euro 2016 qualifying before being dismissed four months later.

In July he took charge of the Foxes, helping them to four wins and three draws in eight Premier League games on their way to fifth place in the table.

Discussing the Southampton job, Ranieri told a press conference: "I was interested, but after that there was also the Greece job - and I made a mistake."

The Foxes travel to St Mary's on Saturday seeking a fifth win in nine league games.
