Jamie Carragher happy for Luis Suarez after Champions League glory

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher admits that he was delighted to see ex-teammate Luis Suarez win the Champions League with Barcelona.

Jamie Carragher has admitted that he was happy to see former Liverpool teammate Luis Suarez win the Champions League with Barcelona.

The Uruguayan striker sealed a £75m switch to Camp Nou from Anfield last summer, after coming agonisingly close to firing the Reds to Premier League glory in 2014.

The 28-year-old was on the scoresheet as Barca beat Juventus 3-1 in Berlin last night to complete a treble, having won La Liga and the Copa del Rey in recent weeks.

Consequently, Carragher, who played with Suarez for two-and-a-half years on Merseyside, says that his ex-teammate deserves the success that has come his way.

"In his last year at Liverpool, there was the talk saying 'if we get top four, Luis will stay, he wants Champions League football'. I never believed that," he told Sky Sports News.

"Luis Suarez shouldn't be playing Champions League football, he should be doing what he did tonight - winning the Champions League.

"That's his ability - not playing in the competition, but winning the competition. I'm delighted for him."

Ivan Rakitic opened the scoring after four minutes before Alvaro Morata levelled matters for Juve after the break, but Suarez tapped Barcelona ahead on 68 minutes and Neymar capped the victory late on.
