Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand: 'Liverpool could win Champions League'

Rio Ferdinand claims that Liverpool have the potential to win the Champions League this season following their comfortable last-16 triumph.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Liverpool could go all the way in the Champions League this season.

Jurgen Klopp's men earned a place in the quarter-finals of the elite competition thanks to Tuesday night's goalless draw with Porto.

The Reds won the tie 5-0 on aggregate thanks to their scintillating display in the first leg of their last-16 tie in Portugal.

Ferdinand, who played for Liverpool's arch rivals United for 12 years, has claimed that Klopp's attacking stars could guide the club all the way to Champions League glory.

"I think they have got the potential to [go the whole way]," Ferdinand told BT Sport. "You wouldn't want to play Liverpool.

"It doesn't matter who you are in this tournament now that front three, when they are on fire, that intensity, going to Anfield - a difficult place to go - the pace they have got in that team, they are going to be a hard proposition for any team in this tournament."

Liverpool last won the coveted trophy in 2005.
