Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand says that Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane showed Romelu Lukaku who "the best striker in the league" is at Wembley.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane showed Romelu Lukaku who "the best striker in the league" is during Wednesday night's clash at Wembley.

Kane did not get on the scoresheet for his 100th Premier League goal, but the England forward put in an impressive all-round performance as Spurs recorded a 2-0 win.

Lukaku, on the other hand, struggled to get into the match for a United team that were disappointing on the night.

Ferdinand has told United's centre-forward that he could learn from "real number nine" Kane.

"I think Kane showed today why he's the best striker in the league and one of the most potent in Europe because he's bullied United's centre halves," Ferdinand told BT Sport.

"He totally dominated them physically and brought other people into play. The contrast between him and Lukaku today was so evident it was unbelievable from up here where we watched it.

"The ball going into him, sticking, holding centre halves off and bringing others into the game. That's a real number nine. That's what you want to see a number nine do."

Lukaku has managed 11 Premier League goals in 24 appearances for United this term, while Kane has 21 in the same number of league fixtures.
