Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed that he is "very pleased" with his side's 1-0 victory over Anzhi Makhachkala in the Europa League.
Stewart Downing scored the only goal of the game at Anfield as the Reds opened up a two-point lead at the top of Group A.
"We are very pleased with the three points. The target before the game was to get the win," said Gerrard.
"This is a tough competition and it's long so you have to use the squad but [manager Brendan Rodgers] picked a team to win and we got a result."
Next up for Liverpool is the Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.
