Liverpool to face Villarreal in Europa League semi-finals

Liverpool will play Villarreal in the Europa League semi-finals, while Shakhtar Donetsk are drawn against Sevilla.

Liverpool have been drawn Villarreal in the Europa League semi-finals following last night's dramatic comeback win over Borussia Dortmund at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp's side earned a place in the final four after coming from 3-1 down to beat Dortmund 4-3 on the night and 5-4 on aggregate.

The German outfit raced to a 2-0 lead inside the first 10 minutes, and Marco Reus seemed to have thwarted a Liverpool comeback when he responded to Divock Origi's second-half goal by scoring one of his own.

However, Klopp's men managed to pull off a stunning comeback as Dejan Lovren headed in Liverpool's fourth of the night in the 91st minute.

Now, the Merseyside outfit have learned that they will need to get past Spanish outfit Villarreal in order to reach the final in Basel. If they manage to pass that test, they will face either Shakhtar Donetsk or Sevilla.

Liverpool will travel to Spain to take on the Yellow Submarine in the first leg and their Europa League fate will be decided in the second leg at Anfield.

Villarreal booked their place in the final four with a 6-3 aggregate win over Sparta Prague, while Shakhtar eased past Braga by ending the tie with a 6-1 triumph.

Sevilla were pushed to penalties by Athletic Bilbao in their quarter-final second leg, but they managed to come out on top 5-4 in the shootout.

The first legs will be played on April 28 and the return fixtures on May 5.
