UEFA charges Liverpool over "fireworks"

UEFA charges Liverpool after a fan threw a flare onto the pitch in the Europa League win over Borussia Dortmund.

UEFA has begun disciplinary proceedings against Liverpool after a fan threw a flare onto the pitch during the Reds' Europa League win over Borussia Dortmund last week.

The governing body said that it has charged Liverpool with "the setting off of fireworks" during the game at Anfield on Thursday, which saw Jurgen Klopp's side progress to the semi-finals of the competition.

The charge adds to five others made against Liverpool over their tie with Manchester United in the previous round last month for illicit chanting, flares and crowd disturbance.

In a statement, the Reds said that they would "address the issues with UEFA", according to the Liverpool Echo.

Liverpool will face Spanish side Villarreal for a place in the final of the competition.
