Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Southampton

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Monday night's Premier League clash with Southampton.

Liverpool will be looking to open the New Year in winning fashion when they take on Southampton at St Mary's on Monday night.

The champions suffered an underwhelming end to 2020 with back-to-back draws against West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United, the latter result seeing them fail to score in the Premier League for the first time all season.

Jurgen Klopp's side do still sit three points clear at the top of the table heading into 2021, though, and they face a Southampton side that has also struggled for results lately.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest.

Possible return date: January 21 (vs. Burnley)

Liverpool's defensive injury crisis deepened in the West Brom draw as Joel Matip suffered an adductor problem which is expected to keep him out for around three weeks.

Kostas Tsimikas

As bad luck would have it, Kostas Tsimikas suffered a similar injury to Jota in the very same game, meaning that he too is not expected to be back available until February.

Joe Gomez

There remains hope that Joe Gomez will play again this season, but any comeback is still a while away with the centre-back still recovering from the serious knee injury he suffered in training with England.

Virgil van Dijk
