Spurs, meanwhile, remain down in eighth spot, nine points off fourth-placed Chelsea on the same number of matches.

Hello all and welcome to Sports Mole's live text coverage of the Premier League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool from London. The atmosphere is absolutely electric inside the stadium and it should be a cracking, cracking affair in the capital!

TEAMS!

TOTTENHAM: Gazzaniga; Aurier, Tanganga, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Rose; Winks, Eriksen, Alli, Lucas; Son

LIVERPOOL: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Mane, Firmino, Salah

Tottenham boss Mourinho has sprung a surprise by including Japhet Tanganga in his starting XI this afternoon, with the 20-year-old making his debut in central defence. Danny Rose is also back from injury, while it appears that Heung-min Son will play at centre-forward with Harry Kane on the sidelines. Harry Winks, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli also start, but the exact formation at this stage is unclear.

As for Liverpool, head coach Jurgen Klopp has made just the one change to the side that started their last Premier League clash against Sheffield United, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain coming in for the injured James Milner. Fabinho and Naby Keita are both still injured, while Joel Matip's continued absence sees Joe Gomez keep his spot in the heart of the defence.

KICKOFF:  Liverpool get things underway in the late kickoff...

... it must be said that there is an excellent atmosphere inside the stadium. In terms of formation, Lucas is fairly central at the moment, suggesting that he will be playing through the middle with Son on the left; that could change as play develops, though.

CHANCE!  Couple of huge moments here! First Liverpool come close to taking the lead through Firmino, but Tanganga blocks the attacker's attempt. Oxlade-Chamberlain then curls one against the post as Spurs survive two big moments for the visitors here.

All of the possession is Liverpool's in the early stages, and Tottenham are seemingly set up to play on the counter-attack here with Lucas and Son both high up the field.

SHOT!  Just wide from Lucas as the Brazilian works some space in a dangerous position before placing the ball past Alisson's post. It has been a lively start to this encounter.

SHOT!  Son's turn to have a shot for Tottenham as the home side threaten on the break, but the attacker's effort was always moving wide of the post. Still goalless in the capital.

Aurier seemingly has the job of stopping Robertson here; the Ivorian is almost playing as a right-winger with Tanganga moving across to right-back. Alli is then behind Lucas with Son off the left. Very interesting from Mourinho, who has previous against Liverpool.

Pass, pass, pass from Liverpool, and there is no question that Tottenham are in a back five when the away side have the ball. Still goalless with 11 minutes on the clock.

CHANCE!  Big chance for the home side as Alli breaks into dangerous position before striking towards goal, but his attempt is over the crossbar. Smart work from Alli there.

Liverpool have not really had a sight of goal since those two early changes, with Tottenham looking the more likely as they continue to threaten on the counter-attack here.

Alexander-Arnold breaks into a dangerous position after smart work from Henderson, but the right-back's cross goes behind for a goal kick, allowing Tottenham to reset here.

Mane breaks down the left before delivering a dangerous cross towards Salah, but Sanchez does really well to just beat the Egyptian to the ball. Excellent defending there.

Liverpool continue to play the more considered football while Spurs look to threaten on the counter-attack. Neither side is creating too much in the final third at the moment, though.

SAVE!  Alisson easily keeps out a low strike from Eriksen as Spurs break again.

SAVE!  Huge save from the Tottenham goalkeeper to keep out a header from Van Dijk as Liverpool threaten to make the breakthrough. Spurs then break down the other end with Son, and Gomez could well be booked for bringing the attacker to the ground...

YELLOW CARD!  ... Gomez (Liverpool) is indeed booked for the foul on Son.

Aurier breaks into a dangerous position and looks to find Lucas with a flick, but Van Dijk is on hand to make the clearance. Both teams are threatening at this stage of the game.

Groans from the crowd as Tottenham's latest attack breaks down, but Liverpool also lose the ball when they attempt to break forward. Still goalless with 27 minutes on the clock.

Tottenham have looked to chip balls toward to Lucas in the first half of this match, but the Brazilian is never going to win aerial battles against Van Dijk and Gomez here.

Alisson decides to leave his goal and gets away with it as he beats Lucas to a long ball. In the end, it is really smart work from the Brazilian, who jumps to head clear.

Tanganga can be delighted with how he has performed in the first 33 minutes of this match; the 20-year-old has not looked out of place. The match is very delicately poised as the half-time break moves closer, and Mane has just hacked Tanganga to the ground.

Little over 10 minutes of the first period remaining, and Liverpool currently have the ball in Tottenham's half of the field. Not too much is happening, though, to be honest.

CHANCE!  Big chance for Liverpool as Salah's super pass releases Firmino, who delivers into Mane, but the Senegal international can only hit the ball into the ground and it bounces over.

GOAL!  TOTTENHAM 0-1 LIVERPOOL (FIRMINO)

GOAL!  Liverpool make the breakthrough in the 37th minute as Firmino steps away from Tanganga at the far post before smashing the ball past Gazzaniga from close range!

YELLOW CARD!  Oxlade-Chamberlain (Liverpool) is booked for a poor challenge on Lucas.

Little under five minutes of the second half remaining, and Liverpool are finding all sorts of space at the moment with Tottenham dropping very deep. It will be interesting to see whether Mourinho changes things at the interval having fallen a goal behind here.

Nothing from Spurs at the moment as Liverpool pass and probe.

CLOSE!  Salah just misses the goal with a strike after knocking Sanchez off the ball.

Tottenham really need the interval to reset here as Liverpool are absolutely dominant. The home side will be lucky if they do not concede a second during this spell.

We are into the first of three additional minutes. Spurs have just had a half-chance through Lucas, but the Brazilian headed an Eriksen corner wide of the post.

Not an awful lot happening at the moment as we approach the break. It does appear that Firmino's goal will be separating the two teams at the end of the opening 45 minutes.

SHOT!  Oxlade-Chamberlain fires over the Tottenham crossbar from distance.

HALF TIME:  TOTTENHAM 0-1 LIVERPOOL

The referee brings the first period to a close with Liverpool leading Tottenham 1-0 courtesy of an excellent finish from Firmino in the 37th minute of the contest.

Spurs have had some positive moments on the counter-attack, but Liverpool have certainly been the better side and deserve to lead at this stage of the Premier League contest.

STATISTICS! Liverpool dominated the first-half possession with 73%, while they had eight attempts, three of which were on target and one of which found the back of the net.

Spurs, on the other hand, managed just one shot on target from their six attempts, while having just 27% of the ball on home soil is not exactly ideal for Mourinho's side.

Both yellow cards in the opening half of action have gone to Liverpool, though, with Gomez carded in the 23rd minute and Oxlade-Chamberlain following suit in the 39th.

BENCH WATCH! Tottenham's bench is not exactly full of goals, but Lamela, Lo Celso and Sessegnon are capable of making a difference in the second half of this affair.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have the likes of Lallana, Origi and Xhaqiri on their bench, while Minamino will be hoping to make his Premier League debut for the runaway leaders.

KICKOFF:  Tottenham resume the action here...

... no changes from either side at the break, which is not too much of a surprise. However, both managers will surely have alterations in mind as play develops here.

CHANCE!  Lucas breaks into a dangerous position for the home side before striking towards goal, but his effort was always swinging away from the post. Good chance there.

Salah breaks into a dangerous position for Liverpool, but the away side cannot make the most of the opportunity and eventually the ball goes behind for a Tottenham goal kick.

Tottenham are having plenty of the ball at the moment but are struggling to make things happen with Son seeing hardly any of the ball down the home side's left.

Liverpool are in complete control of this match, but Tottenham will always be in the contest at 1-0, all it takes is a moment of magic from one player in white here.

Not an awful lot happening at the moment to be honest, and it would not be a surprise too see Mourinho look to his bench as nothing is occurring in the final third of the field.

SAVE!  Smart save from Alisson to keep out a strike from Aurier after smart work from Alli, who had broken into the box before being met by a strong challenge from Van Dijk.

SAVE!  Good save from Gazzaniga to keep out a strike from Firmino.

You just get the feeling that something is about to happen here as Tottenham's willingness to drive forward is leaving space for Liverpool on the break here.

CLOSE!  Spurs have another opportunity as Son works a shooting position before unleashing a strike, and the attacker's attempt is deflected just wide of the post.

LIVERPOOL SUB! Lallana replaces Oxlade-Chamberlain for the away side.

Little over 25 minutes of the second period remaining, and Spurs are certainly offering more of a threat. Liverpool, though, only really need one more goal to kill this as a contest.

Mane finds Robertson inside the Tottenham box and the Scotland international delivers a low cross, but Alderweireld is across to make a smart block. Still 1-0 to the Reds here.

SAVE!  Smart save from the Spurs goalkeeper to keep out a header from Mane!

Little over 20 minutes of the second period remaining, and the score remains 1-0 to Liverpool. You do get the feeling that there is another goal in this match, and Liverpool are the team on the front foot at the moment. Still a lot of football to be played.

TOTTENHAM SUBS! Lamela and Lo Celso enter the field for the home side in place of Rose and Eriksen, who has struggled to make his mark against Klopp's team.

Eriksen clapped the crowd as he left the field, but the reaction from the supporters was not the best. Mourinho will be hoping one of his substitutes can pull something out of the bag here.

Liverpool's full-backs continue to break forward as the away side go in search of a second, which would surely be enough to secure another three Premier League points.

Pass, pass, pass from Liverpool, who are in total control of the match.

CHANCE!  Huge chance for the home side to level the scores as Son finds himself free inside the Liverpool box, but the attacker somehow scoops the ball over the crossbar!

Son threatens again for the home side as he breaks into a wide position before delivering, but the South Korea international cannot find a teammate with his cross.

Alisson is perhaps a touch fortunate to escape a yellow card for taking a long time to release a goal kick, which angers the home fans. Still 1-0 to the Reds here.

Liverpool are preparing to make their second change of the match here and it will be Origi to enter the field. Salah could perhaps be the player to depart for Klopp's side.

Lo Celso breaks clear in a wide position before driving towards goal and releasing a low cross, but there are no takers inside the Liverpool box. Still 1-0 to the visitors.

LIVERPOOL SUB! Origi replaces Mane for the away side.

CHANCE!  Oh my word! Another huge chance for the home side as Aurier picks out Lo Celso with a stunning pass, but the Argentine somehow misses the post. Wow!

As it stands, Liverpool are going to make it 20 wins from 21 Premier League matches this season, which is just stunning. Their only dropped points were against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Who do they play next week? Manchester United at Anfield.

Time is not on Tottenham's side as the clock ticks on, and there is no question that Liverpool are doing their best to waste time. Should be a decent chunk of added time, though.

Liverpool are trying to get Shaqiri on the field, but Spurs are on the break.

SAVE!  Comfortable save for Alisson to keep out a strike from Lamela.

SAVE!  Gazzaniga has to keep out a strike from Origi after the Belgium international had done brilliantly to work some space in a dangerous position.

LIVERPOOL SUB! Shaqiri replaces Salah for the visitors.

We are into the second minute of added time, and Liverpool still lead. Spurs perhaps have time for one more chance as they look for a late rally here.

Liverpool are almost there as they resist another spell of pressure when Winks cannot find a teammate with a cross. The final whistle will be blown in the next 30 seconds.

SAVE!  Alisson takes a strike from Son into his body. That should be that.

FULL TIME:  TOTTENHAM 0-1 LIVERPOOL

So there we have it. The referee brings the second period to a close with Liverpool recording a 1-0 win courtesy of a first-half goal from Firmino. The Reds are now 16 points clear of second-placed Leicester City with a game in hand, which is incredible.

That is just about it from me tonight, but I shall leave you with the match report from events at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Thanks for joining us, see you next time!
