John Aldridge: 'Luis Suarez is not guaranteed a start on return'

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge thinks that Luis Suarez may not be guaranteed to start for the Reds when he returns following his 10-game suspension.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge feels that Luis Suarez may struggle to regain his place in the side due to the team's current good form.

The Reds have won all three of their Premier League games this season 1-0 and currently sit top of the division.

Suarez is due to return from the 10-game suspension he was given for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic for the League Cup clash with Manchester United on September 25.

However, Aldridge thinks that the Uruguayan may have a fight on his hands to get back into the lineup.

"I'm sure he'll get some sort of run out [against United] but if Liverpool are still in the form they are in, Luis then may find it hard to get back in the starting 11," Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

"Brendan Rodgers will be the first to tell you that you don't want to mess around with a winning team if you can help it. If you are winning then there is no point to break up the side. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

"[Suarez] may be forced to wait it out on the bench. Continuity is all that we want from now on."

Suarez has served eight games of his suspension so far, and will miss the clashes against Swansea City on Monday and the visit of Southampton on September 21.
