Dietmar Hamann: 'Liverpool's Roberto Firmino has tremendous ability'

Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann says that Roberto Firmino has "tremendous ability" and could become a "great asset" for the club.

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has claimed that Roberto Firmino will become a "great asset" for the club because the Brazilian has "tremendous ability".

The 24-year-old had a slow start to his Liverpool career after joining from Hoffenheim for a reported £29m fee in the summer.

Now, though, under the guidance of manager Jurgen Klopp, Firmino has impressed and scored his first goal for the club in last weekend's 4-1 win over Manchester City.

"Sometimes when Brazilians or South Americans come to the Premier League [people] ask if they can cope with the physical demands, but I think he's more German or European than South American, mentally," Hamann told the club's official website.

"He never shirked a challenge in Germany, he was always one of the first ones to go where it hurts, and I think he's shown that in his few games for the club.

"He's got tremendous ability and, coupled with the mental strength he's got, I think he could be a great asset for the club for a long time to come."

Firmino could feature in tonight's Europa League match against Bordeaux at Anfield.
